The Coca-Cola Company has renewed exclusive rights to its distinctive contour bottle trademark for an additional ten years, extending protection until December 11, 2035.
The trademark, which covers the iconic bottle shape that has become synonymous with the brand, was originally registered in July 1976 following an application filed in December 1975. The company has consistently maintained the trademark through regular renewals, with the most recent extension preventing expiration that was scheduled for December 11, 2025.
The registration falls under a single class of the International Classification of Goods and Services, specifically covering soft drinks. This trademark protection ensures that the distinctive bottle design remains exclusively associated with Coca-Cola products in the marketplace.
The contour bottle design has achieved recognition far beyond its functional purpose as a beverage container. Over the decades, it has been designated as a cultural icon, with its unique silhouette becoming one of the most recognizable shapes in commercial history. The design has influenced various creative fields, including art, fashion, and architecture, demonstrating the lasting impact of the 1915 bottle design.
Industry analysts note that trademark renewals of this nature are standard practice for major consumer brands seeking to protect their intellectual property and maintain brand identity. The extension ensures continued legal protection for one of Coca-Cola’s most valuable design assets as the company approaches the trademark’s 60th anniversary.
The Coca-Cola Company, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, operates as one of the world’s largest beverage corporations, with products sold in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
