Tanzania Breweries Launches Kili Lemon & Lime Variant

Tanzania Breweries Plc, the Tanzanian arm of Anheuser-Busch InBev, has introduced Kili Lemon & Lime, a citrus-flavoured addition to its Kili brand. The launch expands the brewer’s product offering in Tanzania, with further details on pricing, pack sizes and distribution expected to emerge as the product rolls out to the market.

Kili is the short name for Kilimanjaro Premium Lager, one of the brewer’s home-grown beer brands, so the new variant extends an existing label rather than adding a new one. The company runs four breweries, in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza and Mbeya, and its own reporting puts its share of Tanzania’s beer market above two-thirds. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The announcement describes the drink as a new offering that combines lemon and lime flavours and places it in the Kili family, but it does not name a category. It does not say whether Kili Lemon & Lime is a flavoured beer, another alcoholic drink or a non-alcoholic product. Until it does, the drink cannot be measured against flavoured beers already on sale in Tanzania.

Serengeti Breweries, its main beer rival, launched a lemon-flavoured beer, Serengeti Lemon, in April 2024. Kili Lemon & Lime arrives about two and a half years later. The launch follows a year of growth at the brewer, which reported 2025 operating profit up 35% to TZS 373 billion on revenue up 13% to TZS 1.66 trillion.

Price, pack size, alcohol content and distribution will show how the brewer positions the drink. A price set against Kili’s existing range and against Serengeti Lemon would show whether it competes on cost or flavour, while the outlets that stock it would show whether it targets bars or retail shops.

Tanzania Breweries operates an established distribution network of more than 115 distributors, while its company reporting indicates that 98% of revenue transactions take place through its BEES digital platform. This network provides a route to market for Kili Lemon & Lime, with the pace of its rollout likely to depend on distributor uptake and stocking decisions by bars and retailers.
