Ibadan, The Jameson Wave Has Finally Found You

There is a particular kind of pride that washes over a city when a global brand stops pointing at it from a distance and finally walks through the door. Ibadan — Nigeria’s arguably oldest and most culturally layered metropolis — is about to feel exactly that.

Jameson Irish Whiskey, through its parent company Pernod Ricard Nigeria, is bringing its celebrated Jameson City Takeover to the Ibadan Polo Club, Eleyele, this Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 3PM — and by all indications, it intends to bring the full show.

Cocktails, music, food, fashion, games. The whole thing. No half-measures.

Not Just an Event. A Statement.

For anyone who has followed the Jameson City Takeover series across Nigeria, you already know what this means. What started as an experiential circuit through Nigeria’s major cities has evolved into a brand conversation about belonging, community, and what it means to show up for a city.

Lagos got it. Abuja felt it. Benin caught the wave. Port Harcourt had its grand finale moment. Ikorodu joined the circle. Now, Ibadan — a city that has never needed anyone’s validation but has quietly been waiting for its moment on this particular stage — steps into the spotlight.

The brand’s own Instagram post to its audience was refreshingly unambiguous: “Okay Ibadan, this one’s for you.”

That is Jameson choosing to celebrate cities on their own terms, with their own energy, rather than expecting cities to conform to a Lagos-centric template of nightlife.

What to Expect at the Polo Club

The Ibadan City Takeover promises the complete Jameson experience, an immersive blend of live music, cocktail stations, fashion, gourmet bites, and interactive games that has become the signature of this event series.

The lineup features some of Nigeria’s most exciting live acts, including @youngjonn, @wannixhandi, @djykmule_, and @terryapalaofficial, alongside many more set to perform live on stage. If previous editions of the City Takeover are anything to go by, the night will be less of a concert and more of a cultural celebration.

Entry is free. Registration is open at https://jame.sn/JCTIb-MTN.

And in a detail that signals just how much thought has gone into this edition, Jameson has partnered with Bolt Nigeria to take the logistics anxiety off the table entirely. A ₦3,000 discount code — ZLNGVU6E — is available for rides to and from the venue. The brand put it best: “Great nights deserve a safe ride home.”

However, there is a part worth noting and heeding and it is the fact that slots are limited.

A Brand That Understands the Assignment in Africa

Jameson’s decision to keep pushing into secondary Nigerian cities is not an act of charity or novelty but a commercially intelligent read of where the growth actually lives.

In its most recently reported fiscal year (2024/2025), Jameson recorded 3% global net sales growth even as its parent company, Pernod Ricard, navigated a turbulent macroeconomic environment. Jameson posted double-digit net sales growth in multiple markets across Asia, Africa — specifically Nigeria — and Latin America. That figure is significant. While Pernod Ricard faced headwinds in the United States and China, Jameson’s sales outstripped growth across the wider portfolio in the year to June 30th.

Nigeria, in other words, is not a footnote in this story. It is one of the chapters that kept the headline positive.

This context matters when trying to understand why Jameson keeps coming back to Nigerian cities beyond Lagos with this level of investment and production quality. The brand has found something real here — an audience that connects with its philosophy of smooth, unfussy pleasure, and a market that rewards brands willing to show up consistently and authentically.

Jameson outsells its nearest competitor in the Irish whiskey category almost 10 to 1, and is the top-selling brand in 50% of polled bars globally. That kind of dominance is not maintained by coasting. It is maintained by exactly the kind of on-the-ground community investment that the City Takeover series represents.

Ibadan’s Moment in the Jameson Circle

There is a phrase that has echoed across every edition of the City Takeover: #MustBeAJameson. It is both a tagline and a philosophy — the idea that certain nights, certain gatherings, certain connections carry a particular quality that you simply cannot manufacture without the right ingredients.

Ibadan has never lacked the ingredients. The city carries centuries of cultural weight, a university town’s intellectual restlessness, and a nightlife scene that has historically operated on its own confident terms. What the Jameson City Takeover provides is a stage big enough to match that energy.

The social media response to the announcement has already confirmed the anticipation. Comments like “Okayyy 😫😍 I’m definitely going to be there” and “We are outside 💃🕺” tell the story of a city that has been waiting for this moment and is ready to receive it.
