Diageo SA Names Mealyn Joyce National Key Account Manager

Diageo South Africa has appointed Mealyn as National Key Account Manager for On-Trade Redistributors, effective October 2026, moving her into a role focused on customer relationships and commercial growth. The appointment follows more than seven years across account management, luxury brand development and customer marketing within the South African drinks trade, alongside commercial experience in Mozambique and Zambia.

The role places customer planning, commercial negotiations and route-to-market execution at the centre of her next assignment. For Diageo, which sells premium spirits brands including Johnnie Walker, Don Julio, Tanqueray and Smirnoff, redistributors represent an important route to serving hospitality customers and supporting sales across the on-trade channel.

From Marketing to Sales

Mealyn’s latest move follows her work as National Customer Planning and Activations Lead at Diageo South, West and Central Africa, a position she held from September 2025 to October 2026. She managed customer marketing programmes and experiential investments, linking brand activity to commercial objectives, customer participation and portfolio performance.

Her responsibilities included overseeing more than R20 million in customer marketing and experiential investment and coordinating national activations across Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. She also developed customer programmes and sales mechanisms involving menus, pricing, waiter incentives and product visibility, connecting marketing expenditure more directly to sales performance.

Experience Across Markets

Before taking on national customer planning, Mealyn served as Trade and Brand Development Manager for emerging markets from December 2023 to September 2025, working across Mozambique and Zambia. She helped launch Johnnie Walker Blonde in both markets and supported distributor partnerships, hospitality advocacy and outlet prioritisation, with reported portfolio growth in Zambia across Don Julio, Johnnie Walker, Tanqueray and Gordon’s Pink.

Her earlier roles included luxury brand ambassador and account manager at Diageo, following a position managing luxury portfolio accounts at Distell between 2016 and 2019. That experience spans premium hospitality, corporate partnerships and customer negotiations, providing a commercial foundation for her move into national account management.

The Commercial Priorities

The new role puts greater emphasis on customer-level business performance, where distribution, account planning, negotiations and repeat sales can determine how effectively a drinks portfolio reaches bars, restaurants and other hospitality businesses. Her experience with customer investment and route-to-market programmes is relevant to that shift, although Diageo has not publicly disclosed specific targets or account responsibilities attached to the appointment.

The immediate measure of the transition will be how customer partnerships translate into sustainable sales and profitability. Her background combines experiential marketing with account management, giving her experience across both the consumer-facing activities that build demand and the commercial relationships that help convert it into business.
