Nigerian Breweries Plc’s Ota Brewery has been named Best Brewery in HEINEKEN’s Africa and Middle East region and Best Brewery within Nigerian Breweries, adding two operational distinctions to its recent achievement of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Bronze certification. The company publicised the recognitions on 16 October 2026, although it did not disclose the award year, assessment scores or the other breweries considered.
Three Operational Milestones
The Ota facility, located in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, has now secured recognition at both the Nigerian Breweries and regional HEINEKEN levels, alongside its TPM Bronze certification. The company attributed the achievements to employee discipline, teamwork and continuous improvement, but did not publish the specific production, quality, safety or cost figures behind the brewery’s rankings.

TPM is a manufacturing approach that involves employees in maintaining equipment, preventing breakdowns and reducing production losses. Within HEINEKEN’s wider operating network, the system is used to improve reliability and productivity while developing employees’ technical capabilities.
Efficiency Under Cost Pressure
The recognition comes as energy and other manufacturing expenses remain a significant concern for Nigerian beverage producers. Nigerian Breweries has previously highlighted a packaging-team project that earned a HEINEKEN Group award for reducing electricity consumption on a shrink-packing line, demonstrating how operational improvements can address costs within individual production processes.
For breweries, equipment reliability and energy efficiency affect production continuity, product quality and the cost of every unit produced. However, Nigerian Breweries has not disclosed whether Ota’s latest awards were driven by energy savings, higher output, lower waste, safety performance or a combination of operational measures.
What the Awards Establish
The regional recognition places Ota among the breweries acknowledged for performance within HEINEKEN’s Africa and Middle East operations. Yet the absence of published assessment criteria and comparative figures makes it difficult to determine the size of its advantage over other facilities or quantify the financial benefits associated with the awards.
The next measure of the achievement will be whether Nigerian Breweries publishes operational data showing improvements in production efficiency, equipment availability, quality or resource consumption. For now, the confirmed milestones are the TPM Bronze certification and the two brewery titles announced by the company.
