Rite Foods adds LIDA Malt to its Nigerian drinks range

An Independence Day statement names the malt as the newest brand but gives no launch date, price or sales figures.

Rite Foods Limited marked Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day on 1 October with a statement that lists its drinks and sausage brands and names LIDA Malt as the latest addition. The company disclosed no financial terms. Its factory in Ososa, Ogun State, was the statement’s main talking point.

Five drinks brands and a sausage line

The drinks list covers Bigi carbonated soft drinks, Bigi table water, Fearless Energy Drink, Sosa fruit drinks and now LIDA Malt. Sausage rolls sit alongside them under the Rite Spicy Beef, Bigi Beef and Bigi Flex names. The company started in 2007. Rite Foods has not said when LIDA Malt went on sale, and the statement does not say where it is stocked.

Made in Ososa

Ekuma Eze, head of corporate affairs and sustainability, said the company is proud of its Nigerian heritage and will “continue to create value” and support communities. The company says its Ososa plant drives local production and innovation. It also backs programmes in talent development, sports, education and community projects. Its own sustainability reporting puts direct jobs at about 3,000 and indirect jobs above 12,000. Those figures are the company’s, not an independent count.

Awards came first

The statement follows two honours at the Marketing Edge Awards in Lagos on 25 September. Rite Foods took Outstanding FMCG Corporate Brand of the Year, and Managing Director Seleem Adegunwa was named Outstanding FMCG Brand Entrepreneur of the Year. FMCG means fast-moving consumer goods.

What the trade should watch

Rite Foods is privately held, and public information on its finances is thin. Neither the statement nor the awards offer revenue or market-share numbers. The first sign of whether LIDA Malt is gaining ground will be shelf space and distribution, and the company has yet to describe either.
